Thanks for your reflections Elena. You make some very useful and perspicacious points about binary thinking, being judgmental and "going to the coalface". I was shocked watching the results of the election in the real time. I was thinking of the images I recalled from January 6, 2021 of the angry mob that raided the Capitol Building and wondering whether those who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 so little valued their own democracy that they could elect the man who egged on that mob? I'm writing from 10,000km away from the US so obviously have less skin in the game. But as someone concerned about the climate crisis (we just had a streak of 15 consecutive months of record temperatures) I can't help but think Trump's ascendency is nothing but a disaster for all of us - everyone on the planet. My own reflections are a somewhat less coherent than yours but I felt compelled to put them to paper, so to speak. http://matthewdillon.net/2024/11/30/toxic-avenger/
Thank you for your thoughtful reflection, Matt! Sadly, US population (not dissimilar to other developed countries) is so polarized that there appear to be no connective tissue remaining between the "left" and "the right"... not enough to allow either side to engage, let alone hear each other. But we must keep trying, as you are!
